The Trust
As development of the Katikati College Innovative Horticulture Programme began it became clear that much wider opportunities exist to also provide learning opportunities for other sectors of the community by collaborating with the horticultural industry and third-party education providers. A facility to house this was needed. Ongoing operational funding would be needed.
To support this the Katikati Innovative Horticulture Trust was formed in 2018. It has been set up for charitable purposes, including advancing the educational objectives of the Katikati College Innovative Horticulture Programme, developing and maintaining assets associated with this programme, and providing and enabling facilities to be used to improve personal, social and educational outcomes for the benefit of college students and the wider community.
During 2018 to 2022 the Innovative Horticulture Manager and volunteers raised over $600,000 for the construction and fit out of a new purpose-built teaching and learning facility, to be owned by the Trust and built on College land and operated under the Memorandum of Understanding. This building was opened in May 2023.
